Services for Mrs. Ilo Hatten, 101, of Okoboji, will be 10 am Wednesday, March 25, 2015, at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Spirit Lake.
Ilo F. Hatten, daughter of Lawrence and Mae (Barricks) Hatterscheid, was born on December 12, 1913 in Corwith, Iowa. Her childhood was spent in Corwith where she graduated high school in 1931. In 1935, she married Edgar Hatten at the "Little Brown Church" in Nashua, Iowa. The couple lived in Britt, Iowa until moving to Spencer in 1938.
Ilo enjoyed gardening, bowling, reading and various arts and crafts. She especially loved to spend time at the family's cottage on West Okoboji. In 1967 the couple moved to a permanent residence on the lake where she lived until recently.
Ilo enjoyed and became very proficient at oil painting and needlepoint which she continued to do until age 90.
She passed away at St. Luke Nursing Home in Spencer on Friday, March 20, 2015 at the age of 101. Ilo was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Edgar in 1993.
Ilo is survived by her four children: David Hatten and wife, Gracie of Austin, Texas; Susan Fisher and husband, Jim Fisher of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Linda Chapman of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Thomas Hatten of Topeka, Kansas. Also surviving are four grandchildren: Shannon (Paula) Chapman, Christopher Lampe, Kathryn (Charles) Galloway and Elizabeth (Casey) Klinkenborg; three great-grandchildren, Ethan Chapman, Simone Galloway and Sawyer Klinkenborg.
