Services for Ione Frutchey will be 2:30 pm, Saturday, July 26 at Union Memorial Church in Milford. Interment will be at Memory Gardens in Spirit Lake.
Ione Marie Burger passed away Saturday, June 28, 2014, after a long illness at the Colonial Estates Care Facility in Shawnee, OK. Ione was born to Rex and Ruby Landreth Burger on May 5, 1928 in Milford, I.A. She graduated from Milford High School in 1945 and married Harold Frutchey on March 16, 1950 in Milford. One son, Robert, was born on September 11, 1955.
The Frutchey's farmed west of Milford until Harold's death in May of 1978. Ione was a Licensed Practical Nurse, earning her diploma in 1972 from Iowa Lakes Community College. Her nursing years were spent at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital and Oak Haven Care Facility. After her retirement from nursing, she joined the staff at Milford Memorial Library. Her interests were many; she was a 4-H leader in Westport Township, a volunteer at Lakes Regional Health Care, American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, and an active member of Union Memorial Church.
Ione relocated to central Oklahoma two years ago due to health reasons and to be close to her family and the new great-grandchildren.
Ione is survived by her son Robert and his wife Cheryl Frutchey of Newalla, OK; three grandchildren, Jeremy Frutchey and his wife Adora of Tulsa, OK, Brian Frutchey of Newalla, OK, and Sarah Frutchey Miller and her husband Aaron of Shawnee, OK; two great-grandchildren, Elijah Frutchey and Trinity Miller. Her grandchildren and great-grand children were her greatest joy. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, Dennis and Connie Purchase of Milford, IA., Steven and Stevie Purchase of Sisters, OR., Marilyn and Francis Hoffrichter of Milford, IA., Roger and Yvonne Daughtery of Greenville, IA., and Mary Daugherty of Fresno, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and three siblings, sister Alta and brothers Dennis and Eldo.
