Irma Fay Stammer was born on April 11, 1924 in Spirit Lake, IA, the daughter of Irvin and Florence Brown. After graduating from North Superior High School, Irma married Everett L. Stammer on May 19, 1943 in Jackson, MN. The couple lived in Bodie Island, N.C. where Everett was stationed in the US Coast Guard and Irma worked at a shipyard in Virginia.
After the war, they farmed in Sioux Valley for fifteen years and Irma worked as a cook at the Sioux Valley School. In 1962, the couple moved to Spirit Lake and purchased Lake Street Service which they operated until the late 1960's. Irma worked at Chozens Clothing and also helped with the family bait and fur business.
Irma was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and attended the Lutheran Church. She enjoyed painting, gardening and most of all being with her grandchildren. Irma will be missed by her family who she lived for and worked so hard for.
Irma passed away on August 21, 2007 in Spirit Lake, Iowa at eighty-three years of age from complications of Lou Gehrig's disease.
She is survived by her children, Larry (Laima) Stammer, Gary (Laurie) Stammer and JoAn (Robert) Hechtner; grandchildren, Staci, Annie, Benjamin, Dawn, Jonathan, Zachary, Aaron, Michael and Molly; great-grandchildren, Ivy, Lia, Brennan, Connor, Abrianna and Alyssa; siblings, Flora Smith, Esther Blum, Alice Taylor, and Abbie Sash; sisters in law Esther Hellen Brown, Rachel Brown, and Glady's Brown.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Everett; siblings, Doris Molendorp, Bonnie Smith, Chester Brown, Roland Brown and Melvin Brown; grandson, 1st Lt. Scott L. Stammer.
