Jeanette Iversen

July 8, 1942 — October 12, 2021

A visitation for Jeanette Iversen, age 79, will be held Saturday, October 16, 2021 from 1:00-3:00pm at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Spirit Lake.

Jeanette Iversen passed from this world peacefully at 4:39 pm Oct 12, 2021 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Estherville, IA.

Jeanette was born to Leonard and Vera Wickstrom July 8

th

, 1942 in Sioux City, IA and grew up on a farm near Cleghorn, IA.  Jeanette was raised by two very strong willed individuals, a trait she carried right up to the end, occasionally telling her son to ‘shut up’ while in the hospital.  Jeanette left the farm and went on to get a nursing degree from South Dakota State.  This led her to Sturgis, SD where she met the love of her life John.  They got married, moved to Denver where they became to parents to a son (Chris) and daughter (Ann).  1976 the family moved back to near where Jeanette grew up.  John and Jeanette lived on the farm near Paullina, IA until 2015.

Jeanette always said how it was and rarely pulled punches.  Something her children grew up to appreciate.  She had a creative side that was expressed in many forms including sewing, crocheting, knitting, and painting.  She was not one to back down from a challenge and adapted these skills to bigger projects such as re-upholstery, refinishing furniture and refinishing all her kitchen cabinets.  Eventually, the entire farmhouse was completely remodeled with Jeanette playing a huge part of the project.  She could lay tile, tape and mud with the best of them.  Jeanette loved those around her fiercely and would do just about anything to protect them.  Her children are sure she’s enjoying time with her heavenly family, including all the spirited debates.

Jeanette loved her family, especially doting on or embarrassing her 6 grandchildren.  She also loved traveling later in life with her husband as he continued on trucking.

Jeanette missed dearly her family that had preceded her in death; her father Leonard, mother Vera, brother Ron, and husband John.  Jeanette is survived in death by her children Chris (Ainsley) Iversen of Spirit Lake, Ann Iversen (Gary Hedgcoxe) of Kansas City, grandchildren Adam Iversen, Aaron Iversen, Eric Iversen, Abby Iversen, Axel Hedgcoxe, and Conrad Hedgcoxe.

After a public viewing, Jeanette will be cremated and her ashes spread with her husband’s.  In lieu of gifts or flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Jeanette’s name to the Alzheimer's Association.
