A Mass of Christian Burial for Jerry Godbold, 87, of Spirit Lake will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Spirit Lake. Visitation will be at church on Wednesday one hour before the service. Burial will follow with military rites at St. Margaret's Cemetery.
Jerry Paul Godbold, the son of Carl Godbold and Macy (Livingston) Godbold, was born September 19, 1930 in Clinton, North Carolina. The family moved to Jacksonville, Florida where he graduated from high school. He then enlisted in the United States Navy in 1948 and served as 2nd Class Petty Officer.
While in the Navy, Jerry met and later married his wife of sixty-four years, the former, Darlene Schumacher. After his honorable discharge in 1954, he worked for Capitol Records in Miami and Chicago. When the family moved to Spirit Lake, Iowa in 1965, Jerry worked for Berkleys and GM-Toyota. Jerry's pride and joy in life was his wife and kids.
Jerry was a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion, St. Mary's Catholic Church and was a cub scout leader.
Jerry passed away October 14, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Home in Estherville, Iowa at eighty-seven years of age.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene; five children, Lindell Weston (Mike), Debbie Bahr, David (Racinda) Godbold, Jason Godbold (Heidii) and Michael Godbold (Seana); eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and his twin sister.
