Celebration of Life Gathering for Jerry Harms, 69, of Lake Park, will be held Sunday, October 15, 2017 beginning at 2:00 PM at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Lake Park, followed by a Celebration Service at 4 pm.
There will be a Military Graveside Service 4 pm Friday, October 13, 2017 at Harrison Township Cemetery in rural May City, Iowa.
Jerome Charles Harms, the son of Donald Charles and Rosella Darlene (Runge) Harms, was born April 9, 1948 in Hartley, Iowa. During his childhood, the family moved to a farm near May City, Iowa. Jerry enlisted in the United States Navy on December 5, 1967 and served as an aviation structural mechanic before being honorably discharged on October 28, 1971.
Jerry farmed for a few years and then worked in maintenance for over thirty years at the Emporium before his retirement. He enjoyed racing cars in his early years, going to auctions for unique finds, collecting coins and postcards and loved dogs.
Jerry passed away at his home in Lake Park, Iowa at sixty-nine years of age.
He is survived by his sister, Wendy (Harms) Centner and her husband, Harland of Ocheyedan, Iowa; nephews, Chad Centner of Archer, Iowa and Shawn Centner and his wife, Keri and their children, Dakota and Damon of Archer, Iowa; aunts, uncles and several cousins.
Jerry was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents and an infant brother, Randy.
