John Melford Brooks

A Mass of Christian Burial for John M. (Bud) Brooks, 85, of Arnolds Park, Iowa, will be held at 10:30 am, Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Milford. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Milford. Visitation will begin at 5 pm, Tuesday, October 2, 2018, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Milford, with the family present from 5-7 pm.

John "Bud" Melford Brooks, the son of Zetta C. (Esslinger) and Valda M. Brooks, was born April 19, 1933 in Spencer, Iowa. He graduated from Arnolds Park High School in 1951. Bud enlisted in the United States Marine Corp in 1953 where he served as staff sergeant and was honorably discharged in 1956.

On June 17, 1961, Bud was united in marriage to Doloris T. Urek in Omaha, Nebraska. Bud lived his life in the Okoboji area where he worked with his family at Brooks Beach Resort and managed the resort after his father's death. Bud retired in 1988. He served on the Okoboji City Council, enjoyed helping with church and community activities and traveling, especially on bus trips with friends. Bud enjoyed listening to music and watching sports, especially golf, football, basketball and racing, reading newspapers and watching news, politics and sports on TV. He was the heart of the home and his greatest joy was family get togethers.

Bud passed away September 29, 2018 at his home in Arnolds Park at eighty-five years of age.

He is survived by his wife, Doloris Brooks; son, Robert Brooks (Brenda); daughter, Mary Brooks Bagwell; grandson, Benjamin Brooks and granddaughter, Amanda Brooks.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents, Zetta and Valda Brooks.
