Mr. Dopp, 53, of Lake Park, Iowa, passed away at his residence on Monday, May 6, 2013.
Born John Lambert Dopp July 16, 1959 in Worthington, Minnesota to Merle Louis and Pauline Alice Vande Berg Dopp, John attended and graduated from Sibley (IA) High School in 1978. He attended Northwestern College and Dordt College.
Those who knew him best will recall John's skill and giftedness with horses. He loved entertaining friends and family and often would host a hearty meal sandwiched between two horseback riding events at his home. Many children took their first ride on one of his gentle horses, accompanied by John's experience and wise guidance. He was an active collector of a variety of antiques. His numerous photos captured all moments, human and equine. John faithfully visited his mother at the Lake Park (IA) Care Center for 11 years, and he would share peppermints with staff and residents regardless of dietary restrictions. John's community activities included service on the Lake Park City Council and Lake Park United Methodist Church committee work. His February 28, 2013 retirement marked the end of his 30 year career at the Lake Park Post Office.
Left to cherish his memory are his father, Merle, Spirit Lake, IA; sister Mary and her husband Merle Mack, Pewaukee, WI; sister Susan Dopp and her husband Michael Martin, Enderlin, ND; and niece Elyse Mack, New York City.
He was preceded in death by his mother and grandparents John W. and Marie Vande Berg as well as Elsie and Claude Dopp.
