Kathryn Koupal

A funeral service for Kathryn M. Koupal will be held Friday, July 17, 2015 at 10:30 A.M. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Spirit Lake, Iowa. Burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery, Spirit Lake. A visitation will be on Thursday, July 16, 2015 after 4:00pm with the family present from 5-7 P.M. at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. Kathryn Koupal, the daughter of Anna (Bergman) and John C. Koppen, was born July 11, 1919 in Spirit Lake, Iowa. She graduated from Spirit Lake High School. On December 31, 1946, Kathryn was united in marriage to Edward A. Koupal. Throughout the years, Kathryn worked as a housekeeper at The New Inn and the hospital. She also worked for several years in the lunch room at the Spirit Lake School. Kathryn was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church and enjoyed making quilts and helping with vacation bible school at the church. Kathryn had a unique sense of humor and loved to play practical jokes. She liked to garden, cook, bake was a great encourager to her family and friends. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Kathryn passed away on July 13, 2015 at Hilltop Care Center in Spirit Lake, Iowa at ninety-six years of age. She is survived by her son, Tom (Diane) Koupal and her daughter, Deb Zahren; twelve grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Kathryn was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; three daughters, Connie Kelly, Betty Engel and JoAnn Dierking; granddaughter, Anna Marie Kelly; one sister, Josephine Holdorf and two brothers, Clarence Koppen and Lester Koppen.
