Ken Ashland

June 14, 1931 — January 13, 2024

A memorial service for Ken Ashland, 92, of Spirit Lake, will be held Friday, January 26, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Grace Lutheran Church in Spirit Lake. Burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery. A visitation for Ken will take place from 9-11AM on Friday at Grace Lutheran Church.

Memorials in honor or Ken can be given to Grace Lutheran Church in Spirit Lake.

Kenneth Charles Ashland

was born on June 14, 1931, to Carl and Edna (Thompson) Ashland in Clear Lake, Iowa. He passed away peacefully at his home in Spirit Lake on January 13, 2024, at ninety-two years of age. After graduating from Clear Lake High School, Ken served his country during the Korean War as a staff sergeant stationed at the Barksdale Air force Base. He enlisted in 1951 and was honorably discharged in 1953.

On July 14, 1956, he married the love of his life, Doris Leona Davids, in Clear Lake. Ken dedicated his skills and expertise to various professions, spending ten years in pest control, another decade in construction and twenty years in the United States Post Office. His commitment and work ethic were evident in every role he undertook.

Ken's faith was an integral part of his life and he was an active member of the Grace Lutheran Church as a Sunday school teacher and serving on church council. His service extended to organizations such as the leading cub scouts, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and the National Rifle Association, where he held a Life membership.

Beyond his professional and community commitments, Ken found joy in his hobbies. He had a passion for flying and firearms.

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Doris Ashland; daughter, Wendy Ashland of Otsego, MN; son, Jeffrey Ashland (Penny) of Spirit Lake and daughter, Peggy Adam (Ken) of Chanhassen, MN. Ken is also survived by nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; one sister, Kathryn Swanson; sister-in-law, Diane Ashland; and his faithful dog, Barney.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, two nephews, one niece, sister, Linda Ashland, brother, Lloyd Ashland, four sisters-in-law, four brothers-in-law and one infant great-granddaughter.
