A funeral service for Kenneth Timmer, age 86, of Lakefield, will be held Thursday, September 17, 2020 at 10:30AM at Crosswinds Church in Spirit Lake. Burial will be at 2:00PM at Memory Gardens in Worthington, Minnesota. Visitation will begin at 9:00AM on Thursday at the church. It has been requested that all attending the visitation or funeral service to please wear a face covering.
Kenneth Don Timmer was born December 20, 1933 in Sibley, IA to Peter and Irene Timmer. He grew up in rural George, IA and completed an 8th grade education at Holman #8, rural Sibley, IA.
Kenneth was drafted to serve in the US Army in 1955. He served on a base in Germany as a wheel vehicle mechanic and was honorably discharged as a Private 2nd class soldier in 1957. Upon his return from serving in the Army he was united in marriage on June 28, 1957 to Alma Haddock at the First Methodist Church in Anthon, IA. After their marriage Kenneth pursued his passion of farming. Together he and Alma raised four sons in rural Jackson County. Kenneth retired from farming in 2012. Kenneth also enjoyed serving as a School Board Member for Faith Christian School, Bigelow, MN and trucking for Pioneer Seed, Jackson, MN.
Kenneth and Alma began attending the Evangelical Free Church in Spirit Lake, IA in 1970 – currently known as Crosswinds Church. He was a faithful member and served as both a deacon and as a member of the education board.
Kenneth was a supportive father. He attended his sons’ many and varied activities, be it school events, sporting events or musical performances. His grandchildren were the apple of his eye. He thoroughly enjoyed watching them grow and thrive in their individual activities and attended events when possible.
Kenneth passed away September 13, 2020 at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake.
Kenneth is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Alma; four sons: Daryl of Marine on St. Croix, MN, Myron of Oak Grove, MN, Perry of Jackson, MN, Kyle of Honey Creek, IA and their spouses; 6 grandchildren: Kassidy Stith, Alex, Colton, Destiny, Kya and Karly Timmer, 1 great- grandchild: Noah Stith; sister: Janice Ruckelhausen; sister-in-law: Irene Lantz and two brother- in-laws: Earl and Gerald Haddock. He will also be missed by many nieces, nephews and close friends which includes the “coffee” guys.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Irene Timmer; sister, Phadoris Timmer; in-laws, Bert and Bessie Haddock; daughter-in-law, Dawn Timmer; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Maxine and David Benson; and brother-in-law, Leland Lantz.
