Kent graduated from Arnolds Park High School in 1965 and later earned his Associate of Arts degree. He honorably served his country in the United States Navy from April 4, 1966, until January 13, 1970, achieving the rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class. Throughout his life, Kent lived in Arnolds Park, New York City and Hawaii before moving to Spirit Lake in 1973

Kent attended Calvary United Methodist Church and was actively involved in his community as a member of the American Legion Post 384 of Milford, Ducks Unlimited and Pheasants Forever.
In his free time, Kent found joy in duck carving, duck hunting, pheasant hunting and bullhead fishing in early spring. He was known for his tomato plants, which he nurtured every summer and generously shared with neighbors and those passing by. Alongside his neighbor, Ivan, he delighted in coming up with a “new invention”. Kent’s creativity extended to writing poems and songs, loved all forms of wildlife and was always engaged in home improvement projects, a passion he pursued for fifty-one years.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of fifty-one years, Joann Kastrup; son, Michael; brother, Gary; twin sister, Kathi Davis; son-in-law, Jeffrey Meyers; sisters-in-law, Barb Lindsay, Diana Lindsay and Sandra Watts; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
