Kyle Bruce Johnson, the son of Cleo and Phyllis Johnson was born Sept. 20, 1956 in Estherville, IA. He grew up in rural Lakefield, graduating in 1974. After a brief move to SD, he returned to make his home a few miles from where he was raised. This acreage was his dream. He loved to spend his evenings sitting on the porch swing admiring nature and the peace of country life.
He grew up working with farm animals. Kyle had a collection of pets growing up, helped raise hogs and then got into showing cattle. But as we all know, his biggest passion was his horses. At one point, his herd was up to 25. He established Johnson Registered Quarter Horses. Kyle has been on trail rides for pleasure, the annual Pony Express as well as local fairs and parades. His more recent adventure was to be selected 3 times to ride in the buffalo roundup in the Black Hills. This was quite an honor as well as a thrill and many friends were made along the way.
Kyle enjoyed cooking and loved to share his creations. He never worked off a recipe and loved to see what he could come up with next. Many people have received a meal from him in a time of need or just because. He was very generous in giving and donating meat to his family, organizations or church.
He was diagnosed with cancer September 2018. He fought the battle, but "Sometimes the Lord calms the storm, sometimes the Lord lets the storm rage and calms the child"
Kyle was blessed with three daughters and eight grand kids. They were his joy. Sheila (Cliff) Weinzetl, Ryan & Ava. Lindsey (Paul) Harden, Harper, Zoey & Austin. Kylee (Kevin) Ohlrich, Emma, Lydia & Kael.
