Services for Laila Schroeder, 100, of Milford will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at Harbor of Joy Lutheran Church in Milford. Visitation will begin on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 after 4:00 p.m. at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Milford with the family present at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 4 to 7 p.m. Burial will be at the St. Olaf Cemetery in Bode, Iowa.
Laila Signe Schroeder, long time resident of the Lakes Area, passed peacefully on Saturday, December 16, 2017, at the age of 100.
Laila was born on January 23, 1917 in Bode, Iowa, to John O. and Johanna (Borge) Rongved. She attended the Bode, Iowa schools and then continued to raise her daughter Dixie there. She lived in the Bode area until 1956 when she moved to the Iowa Great Lakes area where she married Ernie Schroeder in January of 1962.
Laila's passions included being involved in the VFW Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary, working with dogs; breeding, grooming, and training them, and helping people. Laila and her husband Ernie were foster parents to over 20 children. She was very involved with her church and participated in the church's women's group and bible studies. Laila was a very kind and generous woman who touched the lives of many people.
Laila is survived by son, Mike Clinton, granddaughter-in-law, Darlene Allen; great-grandchildren, Dezi Johnson, Craig (Brenda) Poss, Sheri (Jeremy) Jones, Jessica Poss, Deejay (Amanda) Poss, Brandon (Jaymie) Poss, Josh (Sarah) Poss; 11 great-great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-great children; special loved one, Patti (Jeff) Griffiths.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ernie Schroeder; her daughter Dixie Rae; her grandsons Jon Poss, Larry Poss, and Craig Poss; her great-granddaughter Sandy Nelson; her great-great-granddaughter Jade Poss and her great-great-grandson, Calvin Poss.
