Lammert Hap Funk

Services for Lammert "Hap" Funk, age 86, of Spirit Lake, will be 10 am Friday, March 20, 2015, at First Presbyterian Church in Spirit Lake. Interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery in Spirit Lake. Visitation will be Thursday, March 19, 2015, beginning at 3 pm with the family present from 5-7 pm, at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. Lammert "Hap" Funk was born June 28, 1928, in Sibley, Iowa, the son of Anton and Jessie (Stratmeier) Funk. He was raised and educated in Sibley. Hap entered the US Army on December 14, 1950, serving during the Korean War, until receiving an honorable discharge in 1952. On June 14, 1956, Hap was united in marriage to Shirley Ann Prins in Orange City, Iowa. The couple made their home in Sibley, Sioux Valley, Minnesota and Arnolds Park, Iowa until moving to Spirit Lake in 1980. Hap farmed and had dairy cattle, and ran a cream and milk route. Later, he worked as a greens keeper at Okoboji View and The Inn golf courses for many years. In retirement, Hap was an avid woodworker, and enjoyed making gifts and mowing lawns and clearing snow for widow ladies. Hap was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Spirit Lake, where they were active as Table Parents/Shepherds for the youth. He was also a member of Lions Club. Hap had an extensive logo golf ball collection from his days at the golf course. He brought his sons to the Clay County Fair, Ak-Sar-Ben and other events to show his Registered Jerseys. Hap was also an avid bowler, and NASCAR fan, particularly Richard Petty and later, Jeff Gordon. Hap passed away Saturday, March 14, 2015 at Hilltop Care Center in Spirit Lake at eighty-six years of age. He is survived by his wife, Shirley; children, Teresa Loerts (Doug) of Milford, Andy Funk (Betty) of Strafford, MO, Marcia Huppert (Mark) of Leon, Iowa and Ed Funk (Shelly) of Lewiston, Minneosta; grandchildren, Melissa Reding (Mike), Matt Loerts, Mick Loerts (Andrea), Kristie O'Neal (Zach), Mindy Dull (Leland), Mark Funk, Chad Funk, David Huppert, William Funk, and Olivia Funk; great grandchildren, Jacob, Nicholas and Philip Reding, Austin Loerts, Peyton and Hailey O'Neal, Mason Stokes and Mackenzie Dull. Also surviving are his brothers, Donald Funk (Dorothy) and Lawrence Funk (Norene); a sister-in-law, Bev Heideman; several cousins, nephews, nieces and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Jake, Arnold and Vernon.
