Larry Eugene Thompson, son of Bernice (Maher) Arp and Andrew Ted Thompson was born in Harris, Iowa on October 2, 1930. He attended school in Harris, graduating in 1949. He was baptized in the Methodist church and in 1968 became a member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Harris.
At age 12, Larry started working for Woodworth's Grocery. After graduation he served in the U.S. Army later receiving an honorable discharge. In 1961 he purchased the grocery store from Dick Woodworth. He continued to own and operate Thompson Grocery until June, 2007. He entered the Lake Park Care Center in July, 2007.
Larry passed away on September 22, 2007 at the age of 76 after a short battle with cancer.
Left to cherish his memory is his sister, Connie Hauenstein of Harris; his niece, Jamie Vickery, her husband Keith and their daughters, Noel and Riane; half-sister, Gloria Smith, her husband Donald of Winfred, SD and their children, Michelle and her family and Donald John, Cindy Stansbury and her husband Jim of Garretson, SD; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Bernice; step-father, Ray; father, Ted; half-brother, Richard; half-sister, Janice.
