Larry Verrips was born into the hands of Ervin and Darlene Verrips on June 7, 1953. Larry attended the Bethel Church in Sheldon until the age of 18. During his high school days he attended Sheldon High School, home of the Orabs. He also attended South Dakota State University in Vermillion. He graduated in 1975 with a business degree.
Larry moved to Storm Lake, Iowa where he managed Home Federal Bank. He then married his first wife Barbara Douglass, they owned the Boat House, a restaurant and bar. They were divorced in 1994. He then met Sarah Elaine Page, they were married 3 years later.
They moved to Spirit Lake, Iowa in the year 1995. They had two children Alexander Ervin Verrips, 14, and Abagail Page Verrips, 12. After 10 years of marriage they too got divorced.
Larry had been a local drywall contractor in the Lakes Area for the last 15 years. He loved working on and fixing wooden boats. Most of all Larry just loved spending time with Alex and Abbie. In January of 2008, Larry was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer. He underwent chemotherapy at Lakes Regional Healthcare for 2 years. He had the most positive attitude.
Larry passed away at the age of 57, on October 21, 2010 in his home at 554 Hill Ave. Spirit Lake, Iowa. He is with his dad, Ervin Verrips, his grandmother Mary Velinga, along with other friends and family.
Larry is survived by his children Alex and Abbie of Spirit Lake, his mother, Darlene Verrips of Sheldon, a brother Thomas Verrips of Ankeny, a brother James Verrips and wife Pat of Sheldon.
