A funeral service for LaVila Peter, age 92, of Milford, will be held Friday, April 6, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Union Memorial Church in Milford. Visitation will begin one hour prior the service at the church. Burial will be at East Dundee Cemetery in Dundee, Illinois.
LaVila Elaine Peter, the daughter of Doretha (Skinner) and Charles Peter, was born May 5, 1925 in Waukesha, Wisconsin. She graduated from MCA High School.
LaVila lived in various places including Providence, Rhode Island, Jacksonville, Florida, Nashville, Tennessee and Spirit Lake, Iowa before moving to Milford, Iowa. She worked as a policy examiner for Continental Insurance Company for many years and was a involved in the First Church of the Nazarene in Nashville, Tennessee and most currently at the Union Memorial Church in Milford, Iowa.
She enjoyed crocheting, traveling and spending time with her family. During her life, LaVila was always a forceful advocate for people she knew that needed assistance. She lovingly served those who were less fortunate, those with physical disabilities and the elderly.
LaVila passed away March 31, 2018 at Accura Healthcare in Milford, Iowa at ninety-two years of age.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews, Charles Peter, James Harvey, Joan McClung, Ralph Whipple, Jack Whipple, Anita Shrum, Mary Ortega, Janet Herrmann and Marilyn Van Buren.
LaVila was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Orlo Peter; sister, Creo Harvey; sister, Irene Whipple; and brother, Everett Peter.
