Lennace Mitchell Brandt

Lennace Mitchell-Brandt, 90, long time resident of Lake Park Iowa, died on Thursday, June 8, 2017 at Hawkeye Care Center. Lennace Elanore was born on March 19, 1927 in rural Akron, Iowa to Elmer and Martha (Gabel) Philips. Lennace attended rural Preston Township School until high school where she attended at LeMars. After high school she received a two year teaching certificate from Westmar College, in LeMars Iowa. She taught elementary school at Calumet and Laurens until her marriage. On June 14th, 1949, Lennace married Harlen Mitchell at the Adaville Church in rural Merril Iowa. Harlen and Lennace began their married life on the farm in Lake Park, Iowa where they raised their three children. They resided there until 1982 when they moved to their home on Silver Lake, Lake Park Iowa. After Harlen, her husband of almost 50 years, passed away in April 1998, Lennace found a new partner in life with Carlyle Brandt. They were married in July 2000. They spent many years enjoying traveling, golfing, attending Okoboji Summer Theatre and spending time with family and friends. They were active in the Lake Park United Methodist Church. Lennace and Carlyle were devoted to each other as they moved from Lake Park, to Keelson Harbor in Spirit Lake, and then to Hawkeye Care Center in Spirit Lake. Lennace was very active in her church and community. She was a 50 plus year member of the United Methodist Women. She was also a long time member of the Lake Park Federated Women's Club, Lakes Regional Hospital Auxiliary, Silver Lake Golf and Country Club, and the American Legion Auxiliary. She attended many school activities and participating with the pen pal program at Harris-Lake Park Community Schools. She loved entertaining family and friends. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and was a very talented seamstress. Lennace was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Lennace is survived by her children, Pam Mitchell, of Sioux City, Iowa, Terry (wife Camilla) Mitchell of Bolingbrook, Illinois, Scott (wife Jan) Mitchell of Lake Park, Iowa and her stepchildren, Mary (husband Jeremy) Workman, of Florida, David (wife Becki) Brandt of LeBanon, Ohio, Linda (husband Fred) of Alamonte Spring, Florida, Jon (Marcie) Brandt, of Rochester, Minnesota; sister, Cleone Brown of LeMars, Iowa. Grandchildren, Molly (Mitchell) Johnnson, Meggie (Mitchell) Widholm, Michael Mitchell, Kyle Mitchell, Sean McGill, Lelia Brandt, Lisa Brandt, Kristin Tumin, MaryBeth (Tumin) Main, Dana Brandt, Matthew Brandt. Her five great-grandchildren, Evan, Aaron, and Madelyn Johnson, Colin and Haley McGill. Preceded in death by parents, husbands Harlen Mitchell and Carlyle Brandt, brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Betty Philips, brother-in-law, Merlin Brown, sister-in-law, Adris Argubright, two infants sons, Gregg and Keith, step-grandson, Erin McGill. Funeral services will be held at the Lake Park United Methodist Church on Tuesday, June 13 at 10:30 am. Reverend Dr. Emmanuel T. Naweji will officiate. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm, Monday, June 12th at the church. Pallbearers will be grandchildren: Matt and Molly Johnson, Jordan and Meggie Widholm, Michael Mitchell and Kyle Mitchell, Dana Brandt and Matthew Brandt. Honorary Pallbearers: Kent Argubright, Steve Brown, Todd Philips, Jon Brandt, David Brandt, Steve Winters, Grace Winters.
