A funeral service for Lester Peters, age 66, will be held Friday, August 28, 2015 at 2:00pm at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Spirit Lake. Burial will be at Silver Lake Cemetery in Lake Park. Visitation will be on Thursday, August 27th after 4:00pm with the family present form 5:00-7:00pm at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Gentiva Hospice or a charity of choice in Lester's name.
Lester LeRoy Peters, the son of Herman (Ham) and Myrtle Esther (Siemers) Peters was born April 23, 1949 at the Dr. Wm Bullock home in Lake Park, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at Concordia Lutheran Church in Lake Park, Iowa.
Lester's father was a farm laborer, he spent his early years in Minnesota and in 1951 they moved to the Freddie Ahrenstorff farm northeast of Lake Park. Les worked his way through school as a farm laborer. In 1967, Les graduated from the Harris Lake Park High School. After graduation he attended a tech school in Kansas City, Missouri. After completing his schooling, he returned to Lake Park and went to work for Terrafact, Inc. owned by Freddie Ahrenstorff, his son, Robert and two grandsons, Troy and Todd. In 2003 he purchased a home in Lake Park and went to work at Rosenboom Machine & Tool in Spirit Lake, Iowa in the maintenance department. Les' employees and coworkers found him to be prompt, dependable, hard working, loyal and versatile in problem solving and repair of machines and equipment. He worked there until February 12, 2015 when he was diagnosed with brain cancer. He stayed with his brother, Robert and his wife, Connie, until May 1, 2015. He then entered the Lake Park Care Center, where he passed away on August 21, 2015 at the age of 66 years, 3 months and 29 days. He will be remembered for his quick wit, a dry sense of humor and his ever present wry smile.
His hobby was bowling. He bowled in Lake Park, Spirit Lake and attended the ABC Tournaments for thirty-five consecutive years receiving a plaque of recognition in 2013. He enjoyed playing card games and board games at family gatherings.
He is survived by his mother, Myrtle; brother, Robert (Connie) Peters of Lake Park; sisters, Sharon Hesebeck of Spencer, Iowa and Carol Lockey of Graettinger, Iowa; several nieces and nephews and step nieces and nephews; one uncle, Henry (LaVonne) Siemers, two aunts, Leona Siemers and Marion Peters. He was preceded in death by his father, Herman; his maternal grandparents, Henry and Clara Siemers and paternal grandparents, Charles and Minnie Peters.
