A funeral service for Lois Roghair, age 91, of Spirit Lake, will be held Saturday, September 19, 2015 at 11:00am at First Presbyterian Church in Spirit Lake. Burial will be Lakeview Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9:30am on Saturday at the church. Memorials may be directed to Lakeside Camp (Presbyterian Camp) in Lois's name. Lois M Roghair, daughter of James and Mildred (Wetzeler) Riemersma, was born May 9, 1924, in Hospers, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in Hospers. Lois received her education in Hospers, graduating from Hospers High School. She attended Westmar College in LeMars, Iowa, where she received her BA Degree in 1945. Later she attended the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, South Dakota, and was awarded the MA Degree in Humanities in 1964. She also attended classes at the University of Northern Iowa, the University of Iowa, and Iowa State University. Lois was united in marriage to John Roghair on December 27, 1950, in Hospers. The couple made their home north of Hartley where they were engaged in farming. Seven years later they moved to a farm near Melvin and continued farming until they retired. Lois taught English and helped with Drama for thirty-seven years in the Boyden, Hartley, Sanborn, and Sheldon Public High Schools. Lois was very active in the First Presbyterian Church in Spirit Lake, where she served as an Elder, was the District Chairperson for Presbyterian Women, and was also a delegate to the General Assembly. She and her husband John enjoyed a cottage in Templar Park on Big Spirit Lake for thirty-five years. She loved to read and did a lot of sewing. Much of her work was donated to those in need, especially to the Indians on a reservation in Montana through Lindsay Memorial Church in Poplar, Montana. Lois passed away on Monday, September 14, at the age of ninety-one. She was preceded by her parents and her husband John. She is survived by her two sisters Ruth Stover and Barbara Keenan and by two nieces and three nephews.
