Lorraine Ficken was born December 23, 1918 to William Wheatly and Mable Grace (Wood) Pickering in Newell, Iowa.
She graduated from Terril High School in 1936 and attended Estherville Junior College. She taught rural schools in Emmet and Dickinson County for three years.
On March 23, 1940, Lorraine was united in marriage to Harley Ficken. In 1947, the couple made their home on a farm in rural Spirit Lake where Harley farmed and Lorraine enjoyed being a homemaker.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church where she was actively involved in UMC Women's Group. She was a 4-H leader for the Richland Sunshine Club over twenty-five years. Lorraine was a member of the Farm Bureau Women and volunteered in the Hospital Auxiliary as well as RSVP.
Lorraine passed away Sunday, March 18, 2012 at Lakes Regional Healthcare at ninety-three years of age.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Gene (Michelle) from Independence, Iowa, Duane (Tammi) from Milford, Iowa; daughter, Linda (Robert) Clark from Pocahontas, Iowa, ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband, Harley, and daughter, Janice Russell.
