Mabel Lockey

April 28, 1927 — January 21, 2018

A Celebration of Life for Mabel Lockey, age 90, of Milford, will be held Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 3:00 PM at the Milford Community Center in Milford. Mabel Josephine Grenvik Lockey was born on April 28, 1927 to Edith Anderson Grenvik and Arnold Grenvik in their farm home located eight miles south of Kenmare, North Dakota. Mabel attended elementary school, grades 1-5, in a small country school house that was about 1 1/2 miles from home, and later moved to Kenmare where she finished the 6th grade. In 1940, the family moved to Arnolds Park, Iowa where she continued her education and completed grades 7-12. Soon after graduating from high school in August of 1946, Mabel married Bill Lockey. They lived the first two years of their marriage in Spencer, Iowa, then moved back to Arnolds Park where they resided for another three years. In 1951, Bill and Mabel purchased a piece of property on Hwy 71 just north of Milford, Iowa and built their first home. Adjoined to the front of the home they constructed a small bait shop, which opened for business in 1952 as "Bill's Live Bait & Tackle", and continued in operation until October of 2017. Mabel had many years of enjoyment running the bait shop with her husband, and later by herself. She had quite a "green thumb" and grew hundreds of beautiful African Violets over the years which she would either sell out of the shop, or give away to her many close friends and relatives. Mabel went to be with the Lord on January 21, 2018 at Accura Healthcare Nursing Home in Milford, Iowa at ninety years of age. Mabel is survived by two brothers, Bill (Joy) Grenvik and Walter (Judy) Grenvik; two sisters, Stella (Ian) Sanders and Genny Arthur; two sisters-in-law, June Lockey and Bonnie Ingvall; her son, Steven Lockey of Estherville; daughter, Julie (Ron) Reinders of Milford; granddaughter, Starr (Lockey) Meyers; grandson, Timothy Lockey; grandson, Michael (Joanna) Reinders; four great-grandchildren, Noah Lockey, Samantha Meyers, Annabell Meyers and Bethany Reinders. Mabel will be greatly missed by her loving family and her many devoted friends. In her later years, Mabel especially enjoyed her regular bus trips to Wild Rose Casino in Emmetsburg, Iowa with her friends, and her weekly Bible study home meetings with her daughter, Julie, and the rest of her "church family".
