Margaret Rehse was born June 30, 1917, the daughter of Pat and Violet (Gill) Ryan, in Corning, Iowa. The family moved to a farm near Newell, Iowa, where she attended and graduated high school. She continued her education at AIB Business College in Des Moines, Iowa. Margaret met Boyd Rehse on a blind date at a Fireman's Dance and was married on July 31, 1939, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer. When Boyd entered the US Navy during WWII, Margaret worked as a secretary for Senator Robert Kier in the Iowa Senate, and then at the Milford Post Office, until Boyd was discharged. Later in life, she worked at the Milford Elevator. After adopting son, Patrick in 1947, and daughter, Jane in 1949, the family moved to the farm, where Margaret enjoyed the kids, their pets and farm life. She always had a big garden and enjoyed canning. Margaret was a great supporter of her husband as he farmed and was a county supervisor. She enjoyed dancing, fishing, reading and traveling, as the couple travelled to all of the contiguous states. Many fun times were spent at the family cabin on Big Spirit Lake. Boyd and Margaret retired from farm life in 1978, moving to Milford, spending many winters in Mesa, Arizona, playing golf and cards with friends. Margaret was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Milford, where she was a founding member of the Catholic Daughters of America chapter. She also kept active as a member of the American Legion Auxiliary #384 in Milford as well as the Milford Memorial Library Board and many bridge clubs. Margaret passed away Monday, August 21, 2017 at Hawkeye Nursing Center in Milford, Iowa, at one hundred years of age. She is survived by her children, Patrick Rehse and his wife Louise, of Phoenix, Arizona and Jane Black and her husband Rod, of Milford; grandchildren, Jennifer Rehse, Jill Anderson (Gary), Shaun Olsen (Michelle) and Heather Hulscher (Chris); seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Boyd, son-in-law, Scott E. Olson and twin brothers at birth.
