Margaret Elizabeth Shriver, 93, formerly of Okoboji, Iowa, died peacefully in the North Central Hospice in Mason City on July 21, 2009.
Margaret (Margie) was born on November 12, 1915, the beloved daughter of Mary and James Murphy of Livermore, Iowa. She was the youngest of five children, Kathryn, Rita, Celestine (Sally), and Francis, all of whom preceded her in death. Margie is survived by her two children, Susan (Jim) Turner of Marion, and Jay (Karmen) Shriver of Mason City, as well as six grandchildren, Sarah Turner of Charlottesville, Va., John Turner of Dubai, U.A.E. (Angelika), Molly Juffernbruch (Mark) of Indianola, Timothy Shriver of Boston, Mass., Amy Shriver (Andrew Welch) of Denver, Co., and Kathryn Shriver (Darren Dotson) of Spencer, five great-grandchildren, and her sister-in-law, Kathryn Shriver of Jefferson., as well as her adored nieces and nephews, Shirley Nelson, Michael J. Patrick (Michelle), Jane Partin (Lyman), and Dian, Scott, Rhonda and Dana (Shriver).
Margie was a graduate of the University of Iowa. She married Jay Shriver in Ft. Dodge, Iowa in 1939. They lived for many years in Glidden, IA., where Jay Shriver was a dentist. They later moved to Spencer and then to Okoboji. They enjoyed their retirement years in Green Valley, Arizona, and in the Okoboji area.
Margie was a voracious reader and was especially proud of the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Arnolds Park Library Foundation, Meals on Wheels, or the Hospice of North Central Iowa.
