A Funeral Service for Marilyn Reno, age 79, of Spirit Lake will be held on Saturday, December 23, 2023 at 11:00am at the United Methodist Church in Spirit Lake. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Terril. Visitation will take place prior to the service from 10:00-11:00am at the church.
Marilyn Reno, born on July 20th, 1944, in Estherville, Iowa, to parents Andrew and Irene (Krantz) Reno. She grew up on the family farm in Terril with her brother John. She lived a life deeply rooted in community and dedication. After completing her education at Terril High School in 1962 she then attended Mankato Business College. Marilyn embarked on a career journey that spanned over four decades, starting as a receptionist at a medical clinic in Spirit Lake. Her commitment and skills led her to become the esteemed office manager at Lakes Regional Health Care Clinic, where she served until her retirement, providing over 45 plus years of devoted service.
Residing in Spirit Lake her entire adult life, Marilyn was active as a member of the Spirit Lake United Methodist Church and a longstanding member of the church choir. Beyond being active in church, she found joy in participating in Sweet Adelines for over 30 years. and cultivated many friendships during travels to numerous competitions across the United States.
Among her passions, Marilyn cherished collecting fine jewelry; finding joy in carefully selecting these treasures at Spirit Lake Silver and Gold. Her leisure time was often spent with her family. She enjoyed watching each niece and nephew grow and took part in celebrating all their accomplishments. She had a love for reading as is evident with the numerous books she collected over the years. After she retired, she spent time volunteering at the hospital. In the summer, Marilyn enjoyed spending many evenings at the Summer Theatre as well as serving on the board for a number of years. She also spent much of her time in the company of friends from Sweet Adelines and the church choir, sharing laughter and creating cherished memories.
Marilyn's legacy lives on through her brother, John Reno, sister-in-law Maryln Reno, niece Danita Jacobson (David), niece Diana Ward (Jon), nephew Steve Reno (Darci), and niece Deb Reno. She was blessed with numerous great nieces and nephews: Bekki Johnson (Tim), AJ Ward (Heather), Joshua Reno (Kate), Jade Reno, Sarah Jacobson, Katelyn Ward, Samantha Ward (Ethan Gates), Hannah Stanfield (Blake), Jared Ward, Mason Ward, Gavin Ward, and Jose Reno. As well as great-great nieces and nephews.
Marilyn Reno was preceded in death by her loving parents, Andrew R Reno and Irene Reno. Her absence leaves a void in the hearts of those she touched, but her vibrant spirit and contributions to her community will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
