Marvin L. Rehms

Mr. Marvin Rehms, 86, of Lake Park, Iowa, passed away Saturday, March 2, 2013, at Lake Park Care Center in Lake Park, Iowa. Funeral Services: 11 am Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at United Methodist Church in Lake Park. There will be a Masonic Service at 10:15 am at the church. Interment: Silver Lake Cemetery in Lake Park. Marvin was born January 9, 1927 to George & Abby Rehms of Sibley. He is survived by his wife, Karen, brother, Darvin Rehms, Bozeman, MT, sister-in-law Evelyn Rehms, Aurora, CO, three children:, Susan (Fred) Einspahr, Kalamazoo, Mi Greg (Bebe) Rehms, Sioux Falls, SD, Brad Rehms (Trish), Madisonville, TN, two stepchildren Scott Goodno, Fort Dodge, IA, Stacy Wiese (Dan) Riverton, WY and son-in-law Bill Grothaus, Sun City, AZ. He is blessed with ten grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, George & Abby, brothers Elmer and Arnold and his wife "Leta", Marv's first wife, Claretta, daughter Kathy Grothaus and his brother Darvin's wife Mary. After graduating from Sibley HS in 1945, Marv was drafted into the US Army, completed basic training in Kansas and spent a year and a half in Germany as part of the occupation forces. Following his return, Marv married Claretta Reiter and began farming near Little Rock. In 1963, he bought an existing sand and gravel business near Ocheyedan, and grew that business until he retired in 1982. Marv and Karen Goodno were married in 1992 and enjoyed traveling and shared interests. Marv loved his family and friends and enjoyed spending time with them playing golf, playing cards, dancing, or just visiting. In a word, he was a people person and spent little time speaking or thinking ill of anyone… he made friends of everyone he met. Marv loved to play golf, and over time shot 4 hole-in-ones, including the par four 16th hole at Okoboji View, also a "double eagle" and the longest hole-in-one in the State of Iowa that year. Marv developed many friendships over the years through his business and on the golf course, and was his grandchildren's favorite "Bopa". His warm smile, openness and friendly teasing will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
