Mary Negus

Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Negus, 89, of Milford, will be held at 10:30 am, Friday, March 8, 2019, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Milford. Visitation will begin at 5pm, Thursday, March 7, 2019, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Milford, with the family present from 5-7 pm, with a Prayer Service at 6:30pm and a Parish Scripture service at 7 pm. A private family interment service will be at Pleasant View Cemetery in Hartley. Mary Cecilia Negus, the daughter of Thomas and Cecil (Beacom) Burns, was born September 18, 1929 in Sheldon, IA. On June 6, 1950, Mary was united in marriage to Darrell Negus in Hartley, Iowa. The couple made their home in rural Hartley, where they raised their daughters, Kathy and Nancy. After Darrell retired from farming in 1992, they moved permanently to Wahepton, Iowa where they had been summer residents since 1974. Mary was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Milford and she worked in the Clay County Fair Secretary's Office for many years. She enjoyed fishing, traveling, camping and entertaining family and friends. Mary was a good cook with her specialties being sugar cookies, biscuits and gravy and pumpkin bars. Her greatest joy was her family and she loved attending sporting activities for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mary passed away March 4, 2019 at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake at eighty-nine years of age. She is survived by her daughters, Kathy Rieck and her husband, Tom, of Spirit Lake and Nancy Long and her husband, John, of Milford; grandchildren, Brian and Constance Rieck, Brent and Kim Rieck, Christina and Mike Larson and Jennifer and Heath Prentice; great-grandchildren, Jaylin, Kenna and Kyler Rieck, Anthony, Meghan, Brenden and Travis Larson and Porter Prentice; step-grandchildren, Bradley and Stacia; step great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Marlys Peters; special family member, Don Stanley; other family and many friends. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Darrell, a grandchild and three brothers, Donald Burns, Earl Burns and Robert Burns and brother-in-law, Glen Peters.
