A funeral service for Mr. Maurice Dougal of Milford will be held on Monday, August 25, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at Hope Lutheran Church in Everly, Iowa. Burial will be at the Lone Tree Cemetery of rural Everly. A visitation will be held on Sunday, August 24, 2014 with the family present from 4-6 PM at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Milford, Iowa. Maurice Rolland Dougal, the eldest son of Adelbert Isaac and Goldya Violet (White) Dougal was born May 8, l923, in Dunlap, Iowa. His early childhood years were spent in Dunlap and Missouri Valley, Iowa. When Maurice was 14 his family moved to Everly, Iowa. He graduated from Everly High School in 1940. In 1945 Maurice joined the Army Air Corps and was stationed in the Philippines and Japan during WWII, where he was assigned to pilot weather reporting. He was honorably discharged in 1947. Maurice returned home and married Louise Ruth Wilken on April 6, 1947 at Hope Lutheran Church in Everly. After their marriage Maurice and Louise were members of the Little Sioux Lutheran Church. Then they joined Hope Lutheran Church in Everly. Maurice and Louise farmed all their lives in Clay and Dickinson counties and moved to Westport Township in Dickinson County in 1955. He resided there until moving to WEL-Life in 2009 and to the Milford Nursing Center in 2012. He was one of the first farmers in the county to use minimum tillage. Maurice was very active in the community. He served as a Dickinson County Supervisor, Westport Township trustee, District Assistant Soil Commissioner, and volunteer driver for the Department of Veterans Affairs. He was a member of the Northwest Iowa Farm Business Association, Farm Bureau, the Two Cylinder Club and American Legion Post 384 where he held various offices—his passion being the Boys' State Program. He was a licensed ham radio operator for over 50 years. As a ham radio operator he was a part of handi-hams who assisted with the Pony Express Ride for Crippled Children. He was also a weather spotter. Maurice passed away Thursday, August 21, 2014, at Milford Nursing Center in Milford at ninety-one years of age. Survivors include his two children: Bruce (Barb) Dougal of Janesville, Wisconsin, and Kathleen Biittner (Wayne Johnson) of Lake Park, Iowa; four grandchildren: Brian (Rose) and Eric (Kelly) Dougal, Heath Biittner and Kristi (McClain) Robinson; seven great grandchildren: Dylan, Brayden, and Lily Dougal, Kiley Holbert, Destine, Trey, and Cody Robinson. He was preceded in death by his wife (2003). His parents and two brothers Arwin and Merwin, also preceded him in death. Memorials may be made to the American Legion Post 384 for the Boys' State Program or Hope Lutheran Church.
