Mavis Mohr

A visitation for Mavis Mohr, age 91, of Milford will be held on Thursday, March 20, 2025, from 5:00-7:00pm at the Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Milford. A private family burial will take place at Fairview Cemetery in Terril.

Mavis JoAnn Mohr was born on January 23, 1934 to Albert and Esther Mohr. Mavis grew up on a farm south of Terril, lowa. She helped with feeding the animals fieldwork. Mavis attended school in Terril and played basketball all four years of high school. Mavis graduated in 1951.

In 1954, Mavis left for Colorado where she began working for Safeway. She retired from Safeway in 1989. Mavis moved back to Iowa after that and bought a house in Milford, Iowa. She liked going to the casinos with her sister, Ethel Johnson, and niece, Alberta Nelson. Mavis and her fiancé, Tom Laing, spent many years golfing, going on trips, and spent many winters in Texas before Tom passed away.

In March 2022, Mavis moved to Stonebridge Assisted Living, meeting many new friends and enjoyed playing bingo and doing puzzles. In May 2024, Mavis moved to the nursing home side of Accura due to failing health. Mavis passed away on March 14, 2025.

Preceding Mavis in death were her parents, Albert and Esther Mohr; her fiancé, Tom Laing; sisters, Beverly Dodge and Ethel Johnson; one brother, Arthur Mohr; four brothers-in-law: Calvin Dodge, Gaylin Johnson, Jim Mortenson, and Don Von Ehwegen; and one sister-in-law, Georgia Mohr.

Left to cherish her memory are her sisters: Glenda Von Ehwegen, Karen Mortenson, and JoAnn (Leon) Stoermer; Tom's family: Mick and Janice Laing and family, Steve and Denise Laing and family; plus many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Accura Healthcare, Warner Dialysis, and Hospice for the wonderful, loving care they gave Mavis.
