A funeral service for Myrtle Peters, age 98, of Lake Park, will be held Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at 2:00pm at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Lake Park, Dickinson County, Iowa. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Lake Park. Burial will be at Silver Lake Cemetery in Lake Park, Dickinson County, Iowa. Lunch will be served at the Lake Park Community Building following the burial. Pastors Tim Harmon and Jennifer Hesebeck from Lake Park will officiate. Myrtle Esther (Siemers) Peters passed away on Thursday, December 27, 2018 at Pearl Valley Rehabilitation and Nursing in Lake Park, Dickinson County, Iowa. Myrtle, the daughter of Henry R. Siemers and Clara C. (Thomas) Siemers, was born on December 18, 1920 at Calumet, O'Brien County, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church in Harris, Osceola County, Iowa. Myrtle attended country school in Osceola County. She married Herman (Ham) Peters on December 31, 1937 in Sibley, Osceola County, Iowa. Herman and Myrtle were parents of four children: Robert, Sharon, Lester and Carol. Ham was a farm laborer and worked for area farmers in the southern Minnesota and northern Iowa communities most of their married life. Myrtle enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking, baking and making her special strawberry/rhubarb jam for her family. Holidays were spent with family feasting and playing Tripoli or other board games into wee hours of the morning. After her children grew up and moved away from home, Myrtle was employed in the summers at The New Inn and Crescent Beach Lodge laundry departments. Ham passed away in 1987. Myrtle continued to live with Les on the Ahrenstorff farm of his employment. Les changed jobs in 2002 and moved to Lake Park. Myrtle moved with him and continued to keep house for both of them. When Les became ill with brain cancer in 2015, Myrtle went to live at the Lake Park Care Center. In January of 2015, she would have been a resident there for 4 years in January 2019. She is survived by her son, Robert and his wife, Connie (Bush); daughters, Sharon Hesebeck and Carol Lockey; brother, Henry Siemers and his wife, LaVonne (Kilts); sister-in-law, Marion (Dahlberg) Peters; grandchildren, Myron Hesebeck, Eric (Cheryl) Hesebeck, Tim (Tiffany) Lockey, Starr (Lockey) Myers, Amy (Hesebeck) Ferreira and Stacy (Hesebeck) Wilson (Dan); nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; step-grandchildren, Lon, Shane, Jay, Dustin (Jeri) Lindsey and Robin (Dana) Johnson. Preceding her in death was her husband, Herman; son, Lester Leroy Peters; parents, Henry and Clara Siemers; her brothers and their wives, Carl (Dorothy) Thomas, George (Pearl) Thomas and Arnold (Melba) Siemers; half-brothers, Alfred Siemers, Elmer (Anna) Siemers and Hans (Leona) Siemers; brothers and sisters-in-law, Edward (Laverna) Peters, William Peters, Harry "Jim" Peters, Ernest (Florence) Peters, Rosella (Peters) and Everett Stone, Fred (Mildred) Peters, Minnie (Peters) and Alfred Duis, Robert (Frances) Peters; and many nieces and nephews.
