Myrtle I. Ulman was born in Seneca, South Dakota, the daughter of Michael E. Stevens and Nellie (Ford) Stevens. She graduated from Huron High School and later attended college in Mankato, Minnesota.
Myrtle taught school in South Dakota in a one room school house. In 1935, she married Guy Ulman and they raised a family in Rapidan, Minnesota.
Over the years, Myrtle was active in the Parent Teachers Association, Garden Club, Altar Guild in her Episcopal churches and Eastern Star, often holding office. She enjoyed volunteering in the community, giving countless hours of service. Throughout her life, Myrtle loved to write poetry, authoring two books.
Myrtle passed away Thursday, April 29, 2010 at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake at ninety-seven years of age.
Myrtle will be missed by her two sons and their wives, Steve and Sarah of Fort Fairfield, Maine and Joe and Karleen of Spirit Lake, Iowa as well as four grandchildren, Gretchen (Jon) Lundberg, Dominick Ulman, Matthew (Juliet) Ulman, and Monica (Tim) Thelen, two great-grandchildren, Lily Lundberg and Lydia Thelen and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers, Michael, Wilfred, and Russel; and three sisters, Elva Martin, Llewelyn Seeman and Madge Johnson.
Memorials may be given to St. Alban's Episcopal Church or the Dickinson County Humane Society.
