Neal Roelofsen was born to Timen and Gertie (Rook) Roelofsen at rural Melvin on September 6, 1916. He grew up in Sioux Valley Minnesota and later the family moved to the family farm northeast of Harris. He entered the US Army, serving during WWII, until receiving an Honorable Discharge.
Neal was united in marriage to Helen Recher on December 12, 1941. The couple made their home south of Harris, where they raised their family and engaged in farming.
Neal passed away Thursday, March 28, 2008, at Lake Park Care Center in Lake Park at ninety-one years of age.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Helen of Lake Park; children Louise Petersen (Jim) of Lake Park, Lola Recher of Arnolds Park and Linda Veldboom (Randy) of New London, Iowa. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Joy Rasche (Jeremy), Jennifer Veldboom, Ryan Veldboom (Mollie), and Austin Veldboom; step-grandchildren, James Petersen (fiancé Kathy Christensen), and Angie Watje (Neil); great-grandchildren, Annake Veldboom, Jack Rasche, and Ava Rasche; other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, John, Gerrit and Vincent, and grandson, Michael Recher.
