Nellie Workman

A memorial service for Nellie Workman, 84, of Spirit Lake, will be held Monday, July 28, 2014 at 3:00pm at New Testament Baptist Church in Spirit Lake. Nellie Ruth Workman was born February 11, 1930 in West Virginia. On July 9, 1950, Ruth was united in marriage to William Jess Workman in Kentucky. The couple made their home in Ohio where she was a member of the Columbus Baptist Temple in Columbus, Ohio. Ruth enjoyed sewing, gardening, teaching children and going to church. She loved to sing, visit with neighbors, help people and take care of her grandchildren. Ruth passed away July 24, 2014 at the Lake Park Care Center at eighty-four years of age. She is survived by her sister, Joann Reitenour; daughters, JoAnn Workman of Iowa, Brenda (Terry) Seney, of Iowa and Jessie (Greg) Gonzaga of Hawaii; grandchildren, Diana Sargent, Christy Seney and Carrie Huskamp, all of Iowa, Rachel Maeda of Hawaii, Denise Ellis of Kentucky, Eric Barbour and Chad Barbour, both of Ohio; seven great-grandchildren. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William J. Workman; daughter, Mary Barbour; three brothers, Forrest, William and Earl Sparks and two sisters, Mary Lou Sparks and Ruby Campbell.
