Penny Barbara, daughter of Alvin and Dorothy (Ditman) Ogle, was born September 11, 1950, in Spirit Lake, Iowa. She received her education in Spirit Lake, then worked at various businesses in the area. Jim Boysel eventually caught her eye, and she called him on the cb radio to ask for a bowl of popcorn, and that’s where it all started. They were married August 28, 1978, in the picturesque yard at Jim’s home in Spirit Lake.
Over the course of the next few years, the couple made homes in Spirit Lake, Muscatine, Iowa and Chandler, Arizona before finally settling in Milford, Iowa. Penny worked mostly as a cook, waitress, and manager in the food service industry. She could be stubborn, but she was a good wife, mother, and grandmother. Penny not only raised her children, but two sets of grandchildren as well.
She loved to read books and watch the tv shows Little House on the Prairie and The Waltons. She also watched Christmas movies all year long. Penny always had her house decorated, including the windows. She had a fondness for animated toys, and her home was always full of plants and flowers. She enjoyed eating Peeps after they got dry and hard, which disgusted other members of the family.
Penny passed away April 15, 2025, at Accura Healthcare of Milford at age 74. Survivors include her husband of 46 years, Jim Boysel of Milford; children Chris Green of Milford, and Randi Ann Dye of Aurora, CO; grandchildren Drake Green, Neil Moore, and Megan Lange, all of Milford, Kyle Green of Davenport, IA, Tanner Green of Lake Park, IA, Tatum Green of Lake Park, IA, Samantha Dye of Phoenix, AZ, Austin Dye of Aurora, CO, and Dakota Moore of Sioux Falls, SD; and great grandchildren Chandler Lange, Isabella Moore, Karlie Meyer, Emmett Moore, and Layla Moore. Also surviving are Penny’s brothers Floyd Ogle and Donald Ogle, sister Deanna Taket, and nephew Jason Ogle.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents Alvin and Dorothy, stepmother Betty (VonHolt) Ogle, daughter Brenda Stone, and sister Dawn Carkuff.
