Phyllis Maurine Boles was born at Ocheyedan, Iowa on January 30, 1920, the daughter of Ruth and Gilmore Woodworth. Her childhood years were spent at Ocheyedan. She attended the Ocheyedan Public School, graduating in 1937. She then attended the Fort Dodge Beauty Academy. After graduating from Beauty School she was employed in Sioux City and Arnolds Park.
She was united in marriage to Earl R. Boles on October 7, 1939. Their first home was near May City, where Earl was engaged in farming with his father, R.J. Their marriage was blessed with four sons, Bud, John, Paul and Russell.
After farming in several communities, they lived on the farm east of Milford for thirty-five years. They retired and moved to Milford in 1993.
She and Earl enjoyed square dancing for over forty-eight years. Phyllis was a devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed crocheting, cooking and gardening. She was always ready to help others. She also enjoyed music.
She is survived by three sons, Bud and Sue Boles of Milford, Paul and Charlene Boles of Mount Pleasant, Iowa and Russel and Sharon Boles of Des Moines, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Nancy and Duane Goring of Westbrook, Minnesota; eight grandchildren, Jason and Andrea Boles, Jennifer and Jason Furler, Scott Boles, Nicole and Michael Hill, Keri and Byron Buresch, Ronda and Kevin Darling, Lori and Luther Flewelling and Kim Lee; fourteen great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Ruth and Gilmore Woodworth; one son, John Boles; one granddaughter, Mechele Boles and in-laws, R.J. and Sadie Boles.
