Phyllis McCall

Graveside services for Phyllis McCall, age 88, of Arnolds Park, will be 1:30 pm, Monday, August 4, 2014, at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer. Phyllis Alene McCall (nee DeMars) passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 11th at her home at 107 Emerald Meadows Circle, Arnolds Park. She was preceded in death by her husband, John R. McCall, brother Bentley E. DeMars, and daughter-in-law, Lesley McCall. She is survived by her daughter Mary Lynn McCall (Elliott Klein), son John L. McCall (Laurie) and grandchildren Megan Berman (Steve), Lindsey McCall, Jonathan Klein and Kara Klein. Born February 10, 1926 in Royal, Iowa, Phyllis spent summers in Arnolds Park. She received her BSc from Iowa State University, where she met John Reid McCall. They married in Charles City, IA on May 19, 1946. In 1955 the family moved in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, where they opened a heavy equipment company, while maintaining their involvement in the family farm in Lorimor, Iowa. Phyllis' passion for antiques led her to open Village Antiques with her brother at Village West Resort in the summers. Phyllis loved international travel with John. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and needlecrafts. A gourmet cook, she loved to cook and bake with her grandchildren. Phyllis lived her life with love, devotion, style and charm. She will be missed, but always in the hearts of those she touched.
