A funeral service for Ramon Hankins, 85 of Milford, Iowa, will be held Saturday, August 23, 2014 at 10:30 A.M. at New Journey Community Church in Milford, Iowa. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. A visitation will be held Friday, August 22, 2014 after 4:00 P.M. with the family present from 5-7 P.M. at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Milford. Ramon Fred Hankins was born to Vern & Alvina (Dagel) Hankins on October 28, 1928 at a rural home near Sibley, Iowa. In 1935 his family moved to a farm near Milford, Iowa where he grew up and returned to live in 1976 until his death. Ramon graduated from Okoboji Consolidated Schools in 1947. On April 19, 1950 he was united in marriage to Marlys Kathleen Thies of rural Melvin. The couple made their home in Milford where they had two children, Connie and Kevin. Ramon worked as a janitor in the Spencer and Milford school districts and then drove feed truck for the Milford Elevator for 25 years until his retirement. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching the birds around his acreage. On August 19, 2014 Ramon passed away at the Hilltop Care Center in Spirit Lake, Iowa at the age of 85 years. Left behind to carry on his legacy are his daughter Connie Newman (Duane) and his son Kevin Hankins (Karen), all of Milford; three granddaughters - Katie Kemper (David) of Fargo, ND, Kendra Simone (Jonathan) of Rochester, NY, and Kayla Hankins of Eden Prairie, MN; three great granddaughters and two more to arrive in November; his sister, Delores Wiltgen of Sibley, IA; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his grandson, Michael Newman; and his wife, Marlys Hankins.
