A funeral service for Richard Alexander, age 91, of Spirit Lake, formerly of Estherville, will be held Monday, August 3, 2015 at 10:30am at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday, August 2nd from 5:00-7:00pm at Turner Jenness Funeral Home.
Richard Alexander, the son of Ida (Smith) and Henry Alexander, was born July 25, 1924 in Bergan, Minnesota. Richard attended country schools at Heron Lake and Lakefield, Minnesota. He served his country during World War II.
On July 17, 1946, Richard was united in marriage to Dorothy Halling in Jackson, Minnesota. Throughout the years, Richard worked at Golden Sun, Morrells, raised hogs and worked as a carpenter. He lived in southern Minnesota until moving to Estherville and then in 1976, he moved to Spirit Lake.
Richard enjoyed fishing, traveling, working and loved music, especially playing the accordion. He was a member of the VFW in Estherville and attended the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Estherville, Iowa.
Richard passed away July 29, 2015 at Hilltop Care Center in Spirit Lake, Iowa at ninety-one years of age.
He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy Alexander; three brothers, Lloyd, Leroy and Dale; two sisters, Emmeline (Thoreson) Alexander and Alice Haus (Alexander).
