Richard Robert Leth, Dick, was born many years ago in Coon Rapids, Iowa, on October 29th, 1928. His mother's maiden name is Marjorie McCoy. His father's name is Robert Jens Leth. His bother's name is Wallace. His sister's name is Barbara. Of this crew, Dick was the last surviving.
Dick mainly grew-up in Ida Grove, Iowa, where his father had a hardware store. He was a kind child, and was a kind man. There is the childhood story of Dick, and of his best friend, Jim, Jim Kulp I believe, discovering a puddle of fish separated from the river, and of the pair carrying the fish from the puddle to the river.
Dick graduated high school at Ida Grove High School. He attended Iowa State Teachers College and obtained a degree in industrial economics. He enlisted into the Air Force in 1949 and achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant, Intelligence. His main area of employment was with the Iowa Department of Revenue, where he retired after 30 years.
He met his wife, Barbara Ann Beck, at Iowa State Teachers College. The pair married on May 23rd, 1950, in Texarkana, Arkansas. Barb and Dick had 3 children: Robert George, Richard James, and Ross Edmund. They raised the children in Ankeny, Iowa.
