Richard Paul Sohn was born June 15, 1937 in Sioux Valley, Minnesota, the son of Carl and Hertha (Weise) Sohn. He was raised and educated in Sioux Valley and rural Lake Park, graduating from Excelsior High School. He served in the Minnesota National Guard from 1960 until 1967.
Richard was united in marriage to Barbara Jean Morrison on June 27, 1962 at Concordia Lutheran Church in Lake Park. They made their home briefly in Spirit Lake, until moving to Lake Park in 1964.
Richard was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Lake Park. He was a member of the Lake Park Volunteer Fire Department for over twenty-five years.
Richard enjoyed sports and was an avid fan of the Minnesota Vikings, Twins as well as the Iowa Hawkeyes. Additionally, he loved following the Harris Lake Park Wolves, which his son, Jeff, coached. He especially loved his children and grandchildren and could often be found making things for them in his shop, taking photographs of them and their activities and sending them copies.
Richard passed away Thursday, September 26, 2013 at Lakes Regional Heathcare in Spirit Lake at seventy-six years of age.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara, of Lake Park; children, Joe Sohn (Jen) of Eagle Lake, Minnesota, Jeffery Sohn (Stephanie) of Lake Park, Susan (Scott) Peterson of Owatonna, Minnesota; mother-in-law, Mildred Morrison of Worthington, Minnesota. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kyle, Calleejo, Kiya, Bret, Brody, Andrew and Erin; other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son, Timothy Paul, a brother and an infant grandson, Jacob Donald.
