Rita Wuebker

A funeral service for Rita Wuebker, age 91, of Milford, will be held Saturday, September 17, 2016 at 10:30am at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Milford. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Milford. Visitation will be on Friday, September 16th from 5:00-7:00pm at the church. There will be a Scripture Service at 6:30pm followed by a Rosary at 7:00pm. Rita Christina (Berning) Wuebker, the daughter of Francis (Jasper) and Leo Berning, was born July 23, 1925, in Breda, Iowa. She attended the St. Bernard's School in Breda. On August 25, 1953, Rita was married to Merlin H. Wuebker at St. Bernard's Church in Breda. They lived in Ayrshire before moving to a farm west of Milford in 1960. After retiring from farming on April 8, 1986, they moved into town. Rita was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Milford, Catholic Daughters and the Rosary Altar Society. She served as the sacristan for St. Joseph Catholic Church for seventeen years, volunteered in the clothes room at the church for twenty years and made countless rosaries for missions. Rita passed away September 13, 2016 at the Hawkeye Care Center in Milford at ninety-one years of age. She is survived by her husband, Merlin Wuebker; children, Richard Wuebker of Milford; Mary (Eldon) Kraninger of Milford, Joann (Joe) Kobes of Des Moines and Gary (Kirstin) Wuebker of Milford; eight grandchildren, Adam (Jennifer) Kraninger, Brent Kraninger, Samantha Wuebker, Zach Kobes, Heather Wuebker (friend, Jessie), Angela (Harvey) Olson, Jody (Tim) Gunderson and Chad Wuebker; thirteen great-grandchildren; brothers, Clarence Berning and Leo Jr. (Mary Jo) Berning; several nieces, nephews and other family. Rita was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Francis Berning; son, Tom Wuebker; sister, Lorraine Gehling; sister-in-law, Sally Berning; brothers-in-law, Ed Gehling and Alfred Hoffman; grandchildren, Chloe Kobes and Tori Wuebker.
