Robert K. "Bib" Walters, the son of Kloa Walters and Lyle Lauter Walters was born at Spencer, Iowa on May 15, 1926. He attended Milford Community School, graduating in 1944.
Bib entered military service in the U.S. Army after graduation and received some of his training at Fort McClellan, Alabama. Upon arrival in France, he was assigned as a combat rifleman and scout with Company K, 22nd Regiment of the 4th Infantry Division, seeing action in Belgium and Germany following the Battle of the Bulge. Like most soldiers of his time, their experiences in the war were quelled by the honors of war and were not readily discussed. Upon the surrender of the German Army, Bib returned from his service in the Rhineland and Central Europe and finished his military obligation as an infantry instructor. For his service, he received the Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star and World War II Victory Medal in addition to other citations.
Upon discharge from the service, Bib returned home and was employed by Luchtel Decorating, Milford Municipal Utilities and worked for several lounge businesses in the area. He later became associated with Bankers Life and Casualty Company and served as District Manager for Key Life Insurance Company of Sioux City. In 1964 he became associated with the Fred Dowden Agency as a Realtor.
