Spirit Lake

Robin Ray Kolpin, 68, of Spirit Lake, Iowa, passed away on August 28, 2024. Born on Christmas Day in 1955, from Galva, Iowa, Robin was a man whose life was marked by love, loyalty, and a deep connection to those he held dear.

Robin married the love of his life, Kandi, and together they built a life filled with joy, adventure, and enduring love. They celebrated 45 years of marriage, a testament to their unwavering bond and commitment to one another. Their love was a shining example to all who knew them.

A devoted father, Robin took immense pride in his children: Jorden, who is engaged to Bill Knoer; Kye, married to Brynn; Quinn, married to Alaina; and their sister, Morgan, who was stillborn but forever held in their hearts. He was a steadfast supporter of his children, always encouraging them to pursue their dreams and be the best versions of themselves. Robin provided many opportunities for his children to grow, guiding them to navigate life's challenges and become strong, independent individuals.

Robin enjoyed a remarkable 50-year career at John Deere, where he became a trusted advisor to farmers and a friend to many. He was passionate about agriculture and a good steward of the land he owned, always striving to support the producers around him. His strong work ethic and dedication were evident in his commitment to his work and the relationships he built with his customers.

A man of many passions, Robin had an incredible memory and a deep love for music. He always had music playing, and he could name the band and title of any song in seconds, a talent that amazed those around him. He was also an avid Green Bay Packers fan, a passion instilled in him by his father, Myron, and he never missed a chance to cheer on his team.

Robin had a competitive spirit, relishing any opportunity to engage in games and challenges. He showed no mercy in the Kolpin Olympics, even when competing with his grandchildren, always pushing them to do their best while having fun. He loved life on the lake, embarking on adventures with friends in his side-by-side. He was never happier than when he was surrounded by those he cared about. He was always tinkering on different projects, particularly enjoying rebuilding motorcycles. This hobby allowed him to hold onto fond memories with his buddies in the "bike club," sharing stories of questionable decisions and funny adventures from his youth.

Wherever Robin lived, he cultivated close-knit friendships that stood the test of time. He valued these relationships deeply and worked hard to keep them alive, no matter the distance or circumstance. His friends, like his family, knew they could always count on him.

Robin’s legacy is one of kindness, generosity, and unwavering support for his family and friends. He was a loving husband, a dedicated father, and a cherished friend to many. His role as a grandfather was one of the joys of his life, and he loved spending time with his grandchildren—Ruby, Arlo, Dottie, Gus, Dean, and Lyla—sharing his wisdom, humor, and love. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on whenever his grandkids cast a line from his dock.

Robin was preceded in death by his parents, Myron Kolpin and Mary Goettsch, his brother Rick Kolpin and his daughter, Morgan. He is survived by his beloved wife, Kandi; his children Jorden (Bill), Kye (Brynn), Quinn (Alaina); his six grandchildren, Ruby, Arlo, Dottie, Gus, Dean, and Lyla; his brother Ronny Kolpin; and his step mother, Jeri Kolpin.
