Rose Kathleen Barriage was born to Harry and Anna (Pitstick) Mendenhall on April 10, 1920 at Sac City, Iowa. She graduated from Lytton High School and then attended Buena Vista College for a year. During World War II she worked as an inspector in a G.M. defense plant at Lockport, New York.
On December 30, 1943 she married Archie Barriage, Sr. at Lytton, Iowa.
Mrs. Barriage passed away Saturday, May 23, 2009 at the Milford Nursing Center where she has been a resident since March 30th of this year.
She was a member of the Union Memorial Church, American Legion Auxiliary, and the Order of Eastern Star over fifty years. She also belonged to the Alzheimer's Support Group and was active in youth programs such as Cub Scouts and 4H. Rose also enjoyed reading to groups.
She is survived by her two sons and their spouses, Archie & Loleta Barriage of Arnolds Park, IA and LeRoy & Betty Barriage of Sanford, NC; three grandchildren: David (Kimberly) Barriage, Aaron (Shelbi) Barriage and LeAndra Barriage; and four great grandchildren, Kaylee, Anden, Mason, and Tayven. Survivors also include two sisters, Lucille Hendricks and May Elizabeth Wassom and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Archie R. Barriage, Sr. in 1989, two brothers, Robert Mendenhall and Harry Mendenhall, two sisters, Helen Thompson and Marjorie Shaw, and one daughter in law, Sandra K. Barriage.
