Roy M. Boles

Services will be 10:30 am, Saturday, December 21, 2013, at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Milford. Interment will be at Silver Lake Cemetery in Lake Park. Roy M. Boles was born September 20, 1927 in Hartley, Iowa, the son of Raymond J. and Sadie (Van Cleve) Boles. Roy grew up and attended schools in Hartley, Ocheyedan and Arnolds Park. On October 7, 1949, Roy was united in marriage to Shirley Eckard. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Sheryl and Larry. The family lived on a farm southwest of Milford until 1963. Roy carried on his father's love of "Purebred" Hampshire Hogs. He was a partner with "Doc" Jones, the veterinarian in Milford for many years while in the hog business. In 1963, the family moved to a farm south of Lake Park. After the loss of their son and retiring from farming in 2007, Roy and Shirley moved to Spirit Lake where they have spent their last few years. Roy was baptized and long time member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Spirit Lake. He was instrumental in helping the congregation build several Kingdom Halls. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed fishing, snowmobiling, farming and spending time with his family where they were. He will always be loved and missed. Roy passed away December 18, 2013 at the Milford Care Center at eighty-six years of age. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Shirley; daughter, Sheryl Jones and her husband, Brad; four grandchildren, Bill and Shelly Boles, B.J. and Jena Boles, Barry and Angela Boles and Hanna Jones; six great-grandchildren, Brooke, Jordan, Brody, Cooper, Natasha and Cainen; one great-great-grandson, Kaecyn; sister, Evelyn Dotson and several nieces and nephews. Roy was preceded in death by his parents, R.J. and Sadie Boles; son, Larry Boles; brother, Earl and his twin brother, Ralph.
