Funeral services for Roy T. Hauge, 90, of Milford, will be held at 10:30, Monday, October 15, 2018, at First Lutheran Church in West Okoboji, Iowa. Interment will be at Milford Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 3 pm, Sunday, October 14, 2018, with the family present from 3-5 pm at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Milford.
Roy Tillman Hauge was born March 29, 1928 in Dawson, Minnesota to Sam and Inga Hauge. He had two younger brothers Gerald and DuWayne. His mother passed away when Roy was five years old. His father Sam was hospitalized when Roy was twelve years old. The boys were separated at this time and were orphaned out to relatives. His father passed away when he was eighteen years old. Roy graduated from school in Madison, Minnesota.
Roy spent four years in the United States army serving during the Korean War. He was sent overseas on two separate occasions during his four years of service being honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant. Roy married Cleo Blanche Simington on July 5, 1951 in Olympia, Washington. After discharge, Roy worked driving trucks and working on farms, his passion. He worked at the Spencer packing plant for six years, saving enough money to buy the Texaco service station in Milford which he owned and operated for ten years. After selling the station, he worked at the Milford Elevator in the petroleum department driving the tank wagon for eighteen years until his retirement. He loved working with local farmers serving their petroleum needs.
Roy loved to share stories, spend time with his family and offer his opinions. He enjoyed attending his children and grandchildren's activities, family vacations and camping. He was very proud of his Norwegian heritage. He valued hard work, was a man of great faith and was supportive of his community.
Roy was very active in the Milford American Legion. He served as post commander, Dickinson County commander and the Ninth District vice commander. He loved the comradery of fellow legionnaires. Roy was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Milford and served on the council and was a trusty member for a number of years. He also served on the Boy Scouts of America round table.
Mr. Hauge passed away Tuesday, October 9, 2018, at Accura Healthcare in Milford.
Roy is survived by son Gene (Judy) Hauge of Iowa City, son Russ Hauge of Spencer, and daughter Deb (Dick) Jostand of Milford; grandchildren Jacob (Kristen) Jostand, Travis Jostand, Kori (Dave) Lux, Nolan Hauge, Cara Hauge and Madison Hauge; seven great grandchildren and very special friend Gladys. He was preceded in death by his wife, Cleo, in 2013; parents, Sam and Inga; and brothers, Gerald and DuWayne.
