A funeral service will be held Thursday, March 13, 2014 at 10:30am at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Spirit Lake. Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 12th after 5:00pm with the family present from 5:00-7:00pm at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. Burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery.
Ruth Lavern Bierstedt was born April 2, 1937 in Chester, Illinois, the daughter of William "Bill" and Lola (Poenitske) Caudle. She was raised and educated in Chester.
Ruth was united in marriage to Norbert Herman Bierstedt on August 14, 1959, at the First Methodist Church in Chester. The couple made their home in Algona, where they raised their children, Bruce and Bert. Ruth and Norbert moved to Spirit Lake in 2001.
Ruth was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Spirit Lake. She was also a member of Cutty's Okoboji Resort Club. She enjoyed spending time in her flower garden and bicycling. Recently, she enjoyed playing BINGO.
Ruth passed away Sunday, March 9, 2014, at Hilltop Care Center in Spirit Lake at seventy-six years of age.
She is survived by her husband, Norbert; sons, Bruce Bierstedt and his wife, Renee', and Bert Bierstedt and his wife Heidi; grandchildren Amber Salazar and her husband, Joe, and Andrew Bierstedt. She is also survived by nieces and nephews, Kenneth Lindwedel (Janet), Kathy Choate (Bob), Dennis Hansen (Denise), David Hansen (Lanette), Debbie Mueller (Dale), Mike Hansen (Kathy) and Brent Bierstedt (Lisa).
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Mary Lindwedel and brother-in-law, Charles Lindwedel.
