Ruth Durst

Funeral services for Ruth "Granny" Durst, 91, of Spirit Lake, will be 10:30 am Wednesday, February 17, 2016, at United Methodist Church in Spirit Lake. Visitation will begin at 5 pm, Tuesday, February 16, 2016, with the family present from 5-7 pm at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. Ruth C. Durst, the daughter of William and Hulda (Westphal) Proehl, was born December 14, 1924, in rural Paullina, Iowa. Ruth was united in marriage to Densel L. Durst on January 30, 1943 in Reno, Nevada. The family lived in Sutherland and Hartley before moving to Spirit Lake, Iowa in 1969. Ruth was a member of the United Methodist Church and the VFW. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, dancing, shopping and loved birds. She was a collector of jewelry, purses, shoes, hummels and loved to get her hair and nails done. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends. On February 13, 2016, Ruth "Granny" passed away at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake, Iowa at ninety-one years of age. She is survived by her children, Denny (Teresa) Durst of Warsaw, Indiana, Dave Durst of Worthington, Minnesota, Mary Durst of Bigelow, Minnesota, Debbie (Clayton) Pavelko of Lakefield, Minnesota and Doug (Vikki) Durst of Okoboji, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Ruth Proehl of Primghar, Iowa and Beverly Durst of Primghar, Iowa; fourteen grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; nine siblings and one great-grandchild. Interment will be at Lakeview Gardens Cemetery in Spirit Lake.
