Funeral services for Ruth Jensen, 91, of Lake Park will be 10:30 am, Wednesday July 2, 2014, at Concordia Lutheran Church in Lake Park.
Visitation will be after 4 pm, Tuesday, July 1, 2014 with the family present from 5-7 pm at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Lake Park.
Mrs. Jensen passed away Friday, June 27, 2014 at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake.
Ruth Clara Jensen was born January 6, 1923 in Round Lake, Minnesota, the daughter of Fred and Minnie (Burmeister) Detlefsen. She attended Country School District #76 and Sioux Valley Consolidated School in Jackson County, Minnesota.
Ruth was united in marriage to Elmer W. Jensen on July 17, 1941 in Luverne, Minnesota. This union was blessed with four children, Richard, Sharon, John and Louise.
The couple lived in San Diego, California for three years, where Ruth worked at Consolidated Vultee Aircraft. They moved to Omaha, Nebraska, where they first started in the automotive business.
The family returned to Lake Park in 1948 to purchase a garage business acquiring the Ford Tractor and Implement and Ford Car and Truck franchises. Ruth was the dealership accountant, receiving the Fort Motor Company Assistant's award for forty-one years.
Ruth was a member of the Concordia Lutheran Church in Lake Park, where she taught Sunday school and Confirmation, and was involved in Ladies Guild. She was also President of the Parent Teachers Association, a member of the Lake Park Chamber of Commerce, Lake Park Senior Housing Administrator, Lake Park American Legion Auxiliary and Lutheran Women's Missionary League of Iowa District West. For all she has done for the community of Lake Park, she received the Honorary Citizen Award by the Lake Park Chamber of Commerce.
Following retirement, Ruth and Elmer spent winters in Palm Springs, California.
Ruth passed away Friday, June 27, 2014 at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake at ninety-one years of age.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband of seventy-two years, Elmer Jensen of Lake Park, Iowa; children, Richard Jensen of Laughlin, Nevada, Sharon Meyer of Lakeville, Minnesota, John Jensen of Lake Park and Loise (Tony) Angell of Roselle, Illinois; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; sister, June (Gale) Schoelerman of Lake Park, Iowa; sister-in-law, Vi Detlefsen of Lake Park, Iowa
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, two sister and one brother.
